Nativity, or the birth of Christ, is more often talked about as the Christmas story. It is one of the most depicted events in art history as well as in modern western culture. Mary and the baby Jesus, Joseph and to a large extent the three wise men are the most common motives in this type of depictions, not only today but since the early days of Christianity. |

The purpose and significance of the baptism of Christ by John the Baptist in the river Jordan is regarded somewhat differently within the various forms of Christianity, although most consider it a fundamental reason why Christians have been baptized until today as a declaration of faith. To many it also denotes the human side of Jesus. |

Another chapter in the life of Jesus that has been depicted a great deal in art throughout the years is also the only event in the bible that takes place in Jesus’ childhood other than, of course, nativity. As those familiar with the bible knows, it’s referred to as the Finding in the Temple, or sometimes the Disputation, or Christ among the Doctors. |
